About The Other Side Flyfishing

This is Fly Fishing. I don’t know whether to welcome or warn you. To spend a day on the river is to relinquish all stresses and scars… but you’ll soon create new ones.

There truly is nothing more beautiful than the sun nearing its crest on the horizon, reflecting its warm rays from the running river’s surface through the dense fog that envelops your every breath. Yes, a beautiful sight… likely followed by a frustrated curse and a false promise to never return; but you always will. This is Fly Fishing.

There is not a more rewarding experience than throwing your best cast with your favorite rod and the perfect fly pattern that you tied the night before among your fellow enthusiasts, and then landing that fish - one of God’s most beautiful and elusive creations (much like a woman). Contrarily, there is not a more frustrating experience than when your cast is not perfect, that fly you tied for an hour snaps off, and that beautiful, ever so elusive creature does not pay you your due attention (much like a woman)… and you leave empty handed. This is Fly Fishing.

This beautiful river, however, provides much more than heartache. It provides life. Mentally and emotionally distraught soldiers, beaten by war, come home and need healing. They utilize their natural passion and the God given beauty of the river, and they slowly leave their scars, finding a new love in the sport. I certainly don’t understand the trauma and draining stresses of war, but everyone has their battles, and I assure you, there is peace to be found on the river. This is Fly Fishing.

This is where we found our passion and our love for Fly Fishing. We are six guys who met in college and got around to making a couple fishing trips. It turned into an unbridled love and mere obsession. Fly Fishing, by the way, is not all about emotion and passion – its also about making memories, having the time of your life with your buddies, and catching monster fish. My new friends, this is Fly Fishing. You’ve been welcomed…you’ve been warned. If you’re ready to enter into a passionate romance in a truly one-sided, utterly frustrating relationship with the river, then come meet the crew. The Crew from The Other Side.

Justin “Ferg” Ferguson
Ferg's essentially the father of TOSFly’s fishing experiences. Rick Ferguson taught this boy how to fly fish, and he, in turn, gave us the blessed curse. The way this guy approaches a river is simply ridiculous (seriously... it's unfathomable). He researches every detail about every hole before committing to a spot. He's always the man with the plan and, appropriately, always the one waking us up at 4…in the MORNING.  He’s always wearing the newest fashions of fly fishing, or “fishions”, and truthfully, he looks good out there. He’ll be keeping you up to speed with his new, sick gear in his Gear Reviews section. Father Ferg.

Chad “Chud” Lee
Chad's blessing TOSFly with the spiritual side of Fly Fishing. He always employs his morning rituals (I won’t give them away) on the river, and the first thing he says after holding every trout – “Thank you Jesus”. His superstitions are present on trips without fail: lucky bandanas around his wrist and head; the morning toast, followed by prayer, to the hope of a new day of fishing; and of course a beaming smile. He can let you in on more of his rituals in his Seven Fly section. Chad is simply one of those people you love to be around. He's fun, full of life, and always ready to fish. Cheerful Chud.

Zack “Z-Will” Williams
Zack is doing his best in bringing sexy back. His bringing a touch of urban to the group is evident by his fish-catching dances and wearing flat bills to the river. Of course he's there to catch fish, but he's also there to party. In fact, let’s just not sleep and go fish now. Zack  tries to capture TOSFly goodness by keeping us and you up to date with new pimpin' pics and vids…wait, who’s filming him? Come check out our successes on the "Zack"tion page, which is obviously filled with pure awesome. Zilly Zack.

Luke “Lukifer” Emert
Luke's most certainly the most resilient fisherman of the group. We all have our favorite fly, but his box is full with literally one fly – and it works. Luke brings joy to the group – he’s always pumped and giggling. His patience is unwavering, though his just-missed-a-fish shouts can be heard for miles…but he just laughs it off. He will be keeping us updated with his regular "Fishing Reports" and after-the-weekend "What Worked" posts. Find all that goodness on his Fish Food page. Laughy Luke.

Seth “The Prez” Jewell
Seth just comes to play with the essentials in his game bag: his game face, a big stick of ‘get out of my way’, and a huge pile of pure awesome. He's called ‘the Prez’ because he’ll likely be our next president. Also, he has masterfully engineered our website. Don’t let his diligence fool you; mention anything about fishing, and he’s on his way to the river. He also loves to party, but that's a given. Seth will be keeping you updated on his section – the enitre site! Dont worry, he'll post regularly in the articles section as well. Secretary of Sensational Seth.

John “Kush” Kushniroff
Kush, born and raised in Colorado, knew he couldn’t really live life unless he went to college in Arkansas. This is where he became part of the TOSFly crew. John is always extremely joyful with an ever-so-slight touch of goofy. Always happy to just be on the water, John helps us all to appreciate our experiences on the river a bit more. Keeping us current on the waters of Colorado, John will be posting regular articles and features on the lucky streams around the Denver area. Heading our westward expansion, John’s prose is available in “Colorado Style." Check him out now and learn a thing or two about fishing in the Wild West. Jolly John

This is the TOSFly crew – we’re all beautiful fishermen. We're beautiful because we’re good, and we literally have beautiful faces. Every day, we’re learning more and more about how to become better fishers and better men. We love life, and we love to fish because we have the love of our Lord. We can’t wait to hear from you, so log on, grab a rod, and get fishing. Come find us sometime. We’ll be on the river.
